The main objective of the Environmental Cleanup Program (ECP) is to protect human health & safety, water resources and the environment from exposures from releases of contaminants. In accordance with the California Health and Safety Code and the California Code of Regulations (CCR), ECP provides oversight of assessments and cleanups at properties that have been, or may have been, contaminated with hazardous substances from leaking underground storage tanks (USTs) or releases associated with other commercial/industrial use. Further, ECP will provide a certification/clearance letter upon completion of investigations and remedial actions. These letters are often required for property transfers and financial transactions.
ECP also takes part in the environmental review of planning cases for properties within unincorporated areas and several cities within Riverside County. Upon request, ECP staff will review and comment on technical documents relating to environmental assessment and proper mitigation of property proposed for development.
