Water Program
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES
Well Permitting
Permits are required for the construction and/or abandonment of all water wells including, but not limited to Driven Wells, Monitoring Wells, Cathodic Wells, Extraction Wells, Agricultural Wells and Community Water Supply Wells. The wells are inspected during different stages of construction to help verify standards are being met. All drinking water wells are evaluated once they complete installation to ensure they comply with State well standards and meet minimum drinking water standards. If found in compliance, the homeowner is issued a clearance letter authorizing their use. Well Driller Registry
Well driller registry is maintained to provide a list of approved drillers to the general public.
Local Primacy Agency ( LPA )
This program has been delegated primacy from the State to provide regulatory oversight and inspect at various frequencies all public water systems in the County that have between 15 and 199 service connections and those serving restaurants, schools and industry. Currently this program permits about 200 systems of these types.
State Small Water systems
This program currently provides limited regulatory oversight to those water systems serving between 5 and 14 service connections. Inspections are conducted on each system annually. There are currently about 100 water systems of this size.
Water Sampling
Bacterial and chemical sampling of water is provided upon request.
FHA/VA Well Evaluation
This program evaluates existing residential water wells and makes a determination if the water meets certain minimum standards. This evaluation meets the FHA/VA certification requirements.
Backflow Prevention
This program provides staff and assists the Board of Supervisors appointed Backflow Board of Examiners to certify individuals in the evaluation and testing of backflow prevention assemblies. A listing of approved backflow testers is available .
